You'll be surprised how much fun you can have kicking back and spending a couple of days concentrating on those ten numerals we use so much but study so rarely. This is not your typical demo-and-copy class, but a series of exploratory activities looking at each numeral - proportions, design, legibility issues, historical development, even flourishing. You will create a beautiful handsewn book with your favorites and a gathering of examples from the amazing variety that will show up in the group, plus historical handouts. We'll squeeze in a bit about punctuation as you bind your resource book and you'll go home feeling much more confident in lettering numerals to go with any alphabet or style.
Supplies:
- Your favorite calligraphic supplies - we'll stick with black ink/gouache on grid or bond paper, please bring at least one nib 3mm or larger (Speedball C-0 or C-1, Mitchell-Rexell 0 or 1 for example, a parallel pen would work also)
- Repostionable ("Post-It") glue stick
- Non-repro-blue pencil
- Scissors or X-acto knife
Optional:
- various fun tools to write with
